Cedar Rapids hosts Emergency Management DAT

(4/29/25) Lead Trainer Dave Whalen presented to the largest audience to attend the acclaimed Emergency Planning, Preparedness, Response and Recovery for Peoplw with Disabilities and Access and Functional Needs. This is the 58th time the program has been conducted, making Iowa the eighth staste to recieve a version of it. An active group that had representatives from emergency management, Community Organizations Active in Disaster, Independent Living Centers, developmental disabilities service providers,  a leading deaf advocacy agency, and the city’s ADA Coordinator, among others, participated. 

Conternt includes personal preparedness, general effective communication, ADA Compliance specific to emergency management, incorporation of the whole community, and gap identification allow for an understanidng of how to proactively plan, prepare, and responf to persons with disabilities and access and functional needs.
